"The ensemble playing between both players is extremely good...both musicians also shine individually...Catherine's singing oboe tone"
"musical rapport and impeccable ensemble"
A professional oboe and piano duo, based in South Wales. They are a married couple who have released 3 albums of music together. Catherine Tanner-Williams is a freelance oboist who is currently principal oboe of Orchestra de Cymru. Christopher Williams is a staff pianist at the RWCMD, teaches piano at Cardiff University, and is assistant director of the BBC National Chorus of Wales. Both musicians have freelanced the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, English Symphony Orchestra, and Welsh Sinfonia.
If your venue doesn't have a piano, we can either bring our own digital piano or recommend a good piano hire company.
As well as the standard classical music used for weddings, we can arrange special songs or even opera arias for you. Equally at home with Elgar or Elvis! The oboe is a wonderful lyrical instrument which can play songs beautifully; a great alternative to hiring a singer. The oboe sounds perfect in resonant spaces like churches, where the tone carries better than a string quartet.
We are a flexible ensemble, so for example, you could book us as a duo for both the wedding and reception, or duo for the ceremony followed by Christopher on solo piano for the reception, or solo oboe for the ceremony and then a duo for the reception.
